Project description

This project involved the design and permit coordination for a modern grocery store, tailored to deliver an efficient retail environment while enhancing customer experience. The scope included architectural planning, zoning review, and preparation of permit-ready drawings in compliance with local building codes.

Design Approach

  • The design focused on creating a clear and intuitive customer flow, guiding visitors seamlessly from entry to checkout. Key elements included:
  • Strategically placed produce and featured items near the entrance
  • Wide aisles to improve circulation and accessibility
  • Efficient shelving layout to maximize product visibility
  • Optimized checkout zones to reduce congestion.
  • Natural and artificial lighting were carefully integrated to enhance product presentation and create a welcoming shopping environment.

Technical Considerations

  • Compliance with the Ontario Building Code (OBC)
  • Classification under Group E (Mercantile occupancy)
  • Barrier-free design including accessible entrances and circulation paths
  • Fire separation and exit requirements
  • HVAC and ventilation coordination for food storage areas
